Fishing - Poles - the dirty race not the rod type.
All,

I love an occasional fish, nothing better in the sun.

Now I am not very good at it, in fact truly awful, however I have found it increasingly difficult to catch carp over the past 6-9 months.

Left the local tackle shop in a moment ago. Bloke that owns it reckons carp and pike stocks are down 80%.

Poles using huge nets to catch and sell/eat carp.

I can take their women but please leave our carp alone.

Wouldn't be surprised in areas where there are high % of them living.

Local private lake near me has been netted twice this year. Five days after being restocked.
All carp.
Hope they choke.

Zammo Carp are meant to be hard to catch but you are right there has been an increase in theft by Eastern Europeans of carp stocks .the fisheries earn enough they need to get better security .most day ticket fisheries remain well stocked and will return a fair few fish per session

I used to run a place with 11 lakes, 3 times in a year our bailiff (who fortunately had a monster of a Bull Mastif as his constant companion) chased the fuckers off when he found them in one of the lakes, with a massive net held between them walking the length of a lake at night. Fortunately they never got away with any fish as far as we could tell.

It stopped when we put up signs everywhere, in Polish, pointing out that it is illegal and we would prosecute offenders. I'm sure they probably just moved on to somewhere else though.

I'd be interested to try it, seems to be very popular with the sausages rolls, and a lot of Eastern Europe.

I honestly don't see what the problem is with this unless it's on private land or something.

Because it's theft for a start.

Because it's depleting the fucking stocks, you're supposed to throw the fuckers back

It's only theft if it's private land surely?

Are they endangered or something?

Re: Fishing - Poles - the dirty race not the rod type.
Surely all stocks are being depleted, FC, hence why we're being encouraged to eat Haddock, Pollock, or even Coley, which was cat food years ago. Not defending this though, especially if it from private stock.

Re: Fishing - Poles - the dirty race not the rod type.
Most fisheries are on privately owned for a start, even so it's theft of stock, which costs money, it's illegal to take them for food, or at all.

In Northern Italy they eat Perch and Pike, never tried either fish. I prefer Haddock or Cod.

Over a certain size

Re: Fishing - Poles - the dirty race not the rod type.
Serious question if you were to walk down to your local lake/canal/whatever and sit there with your rod out for a bit (hehehe etc.) and catch a load of fish and take them home and eat them would it be illegal?

Or is it only certain types of fish that are protected?

And if so why?

Sxboy_66 7:25 Wed Jul 1
Re: Fishing - Poles - the dirty race not the rod type.
Mashed - most carp fisheries are in private ownership. Certainly ones where the stock has been carefully managed at great expense.

To replace one 20lb Carp that has been taken would cost a fishery close to £1000 if they bought one that size. That's why most spend a lot of time and effort raising their own.

It's theft, exactly the same as rustling livestock.

Re: Fishing - Poles - the dirty race not the rod type.
What Sxboy_66 said. All fresh water fish are considered livestock, except river trout and salmon which you can keep over a certain size with the appropriate license.

Eels are fair game though I believe.
